Re-seeding Program

The purpose of this effort is to support local landowners re-establish permanent vegetation after a wildfire providing long-term erosion control, restore lost habitat values, and aid in suppressing weed invasion.

The Lee and Elk Fires burned through key agricultural watersheds in Rio Blanco County. Burned vegetation and soil instability have led to heavy sediment, ash, and woody debris flowing into the watershed. Severely burned sites should be seeded to decrease the likelihood of erosion and sediment movement down slopes and to discourage weed invasion.

PROGRAM GOALS:

• Restore Vegetation Cover

• Reduce post-fire flooding and sediment movement

• Protect water quality and watershed health

• Support soil recovery and Long-term productivity

• Limit invasive species spread

• Improve wildlife habitat

COST-SHARE DETAILS:

• 50/50 cost-share between the landowner and the White River Conservation District

• Application through the White River Conservation District

• ‘Early Detection’ Weed Watch Program

• Landowners contribute half the total cost of seed purchases; WRCD assists with the remainder through recovery funding
