Forest Health Program

The Conservation Districts and collaborative partners are directing efforts to 1) mitigate risks associated with wildfire in the Wildlland Urban Interface (WUI) through defensible space clearance and 2) assist commnites with planning to address wildfire response and community preparedness through education and site assessments. The long-term goal is to make the entire landscape more resilient and allow the community to coexist with frequent wildfires.
With guidance from the White River Water Initative, the Forest Program Coordinator, hired in 2024, is building momentum in planning, securing funds, and impelmenting projects in priority areas listed in the Community Wildfire Protection Plan and the Colorado State Forest Service Forest Atlas Plan.
