UPDATE: Colorado Soil Health Program (CSHP)
As of April 14, the Colorado Department of Agriculture is aware of the USDA announcement regarding Climate Smart Commodities. Following that announcement, CDA received notification that the CSHP grant has been terminated as it stands. The Districts are reviewing this information and the potential implications. The Colorado Department of Agriculture and its partners are working to address funding uncertainties and continue implementing the program. The Districts will be followong up with each Tio Blanco County landowner currently enrolled in the program. Please reach out to us if you currently have a soil monitor and/or reimbursements prior to April 16th. More information from the CDA:
"The federal funding that supported the majority of the Colorado Soil Health Program has been terminated by the Trump Administration. Due to this action the CO Dept of Agriculture cannot continue to reimburse our partners or producers for costs incurred while implementing soil health practices, pay subscriptions for soil moisture monitoring systems, or provide further soil sample analysis after 4/16/25.
CDA has committed to reimbursing producers for soil health practices through April 16th. We will work with you to get your reimbursement forms submitted for any work that has been completed or materials that have been purchased up until that date. Please start compiling any receipts you may have.
The Colorado Soil Health Program remains a priority for CDA, though it will look different going forward. We hope you continue to prioritize the health of your soil when making management decisions, and if possible, continue the practices we had planned with you. The STAR tool continues to be available for your use https://www.startool.ag/ . "
